I am Dr. Bea Heller.
www.BeaHellerDC.com I have been serving the Orange County area for 25
years. My services include treating chiropractic care for animals as well as
children and adults. I am trained as a zoologist and biologist as well as a
doctor of chiropractic and Oriental medicine. I believe in getting my patients
well as quickly as possible and providing you with the information you need to
stay healthy.
For more animal care information please visit
my website. I am trained to provide chiropractic care to most animals with a
spine as long as the animal has a regular veterinarian.

I have a deep love of all living creatures. I
have rescued many animals over my lifetime. I found there was a need for a
rescue center for chinchillas so I started one for Orange County. I found that
often people adopted these beautiful and cuddly animals without really knowing
how much of a commitment was needed to give these creatures a good life and joy
to their guardians. I have therefore added the following information on my
website to help educate all chinchilla owners.
Please enjoy the journey.
Important
considerations when caring for a chinchilla:
DO NOT LET YOUR CHINCHILLA LIVE IN TEMPERATURES
WARMER THAN 78 DEGREES. THEY TEND TO DIE AT 80 DEGRESS. DO NOT GO ON VACATION
IN SUMMER LEAVING YOUR HOUSE SHUT TIGHT WITH A CHINCHILLA INSIDE! GET SOMEBODY
WITH AN AIR CONDITIONED HOME TO PET SIT FOR YOUR CHIN.
IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THEY HAVE AT LEAST 2 HOURS
OF SUPERVISED OUT OF CAGE PLAYTIME DAILY. DO NOT LET THEM CHEW ON TOXIC
OBJECTS OR ELECTRICAL CORDS.
FEED THEM CHINCHILLA FOOD, NOT HAMSTER OR
RABBIT FOOD.
Make sure the cage has places for them to walk
without bars. Bars hurt their feet. They need at least 3 levels for them to
jump up and down safely. I let them run in my bathroom without carpet for 2
hours each night.
Get them a large chinchilla exercise wheel that
is not made with bars.
Keep them safe from other pets, especially dogs
and some cats.
Get 2 chinchillas of the same sex. This allows
them to have a buddy and also keeps them from breeding.
Chinchillas are social and usually live in
large groups in the wild at 6-12,000 feet elevation in the cold Andes. They are
now an endangered species and are rare in the wild. With proper care they can
be a loving family member for 20 years or more. This is not a pet for small
children. Your family needs to consider this when getting a chinchilla. Many
children loose interest in their pet long before the 20 years have passed.
(This is one of the reasons I started the rescue center.) They need more care
than a rat or a hamster.
Care of
chinchillas:
This care sheet is a very complete.

Please open up the page and copy it so you know
what to have available for your pet. It also includes a good check list to help
you decide if chinchillas are the right pet for you and your family.
